Artists in the Streets Project

This unique Creative Pathways project showcases Downtown Eastside involved musicians, performers, and artists animating greater Downtown Eastside streets, events, and activities at selected times and locations until the end of February 2011. All performances are free events.

Upcoming performances will enhance the Heart of the City Festival and feature:

DEET STREET
Four years ago, the idea formed to create a local jazz band able to make music outside on sidewalks and in outdoor areas of the ‘hood. That time has arrived! Welcome to the newest band in the DTES – Deet Street (a play on DTES Street), a fun upbeat six-piece with Brad Muirhead on sousaphone, Dennis Esson on trombone, on trumpet Malcolm Aiken and Phil Smith, Mark Boreen on saxophone, and Gary Wildeman on drums. Playing classics, jazz, a little bit of everything. Listen for them coming down the street!

SNOWY OWL DRUMMERS
The Snowy Owl Drummers drum the community’s heartbeat. Feel the rhythm, sing the songs!

CARNEGIE VILLAGE CHOIR
The Carnegie Village Choir is a community cultural endeavor with voice as its focus, particularly the singing voice. Conducted by Beverly Dobrinsky, more than a dozen voices will sing a magnificent range of songs and stories drawing from diverse roots: jazz, big band, labour, popular music, and original songs rooted in home and heart. Sing along if you know it! Free

Also keep an eye out for Artists in the Street performers at the CACV’s AGM on November 25th outside of the Chapel Arts.
