Call out for DTES Artists!

The Community Arts Council of Vancouver is seeking two artists to represent them in a public art event.

Intersections Media is assembling the first public Grey to Green art installation co-curated by James Koester. The event is a unique introduction of community arts into an unlikely space: a parking lot and back alley in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. The Grey to Green Lane Renewal Project is managed by Intersections Media, a Skills development program that works with at-risk youth and provides both workshop and project-based creative skills development programs.

The Community Arts Council of Vancouver is to refer two artists to participate in the event. Artists will be provided a wood canvas of an average size of 24” by 24” (of varying sizes) but will be asked to provide their own weatherproof materials. The paintings will be enclosed in a metal frame and displayed on the Grey to Green fence at 150 Cordova Street.

Each artist will receive a $500 honourium for his or her contribution. To be eligible, artists must live and/or work within five blocks of the installation. Intersections media is committed to representing the diverse population of the Downtown Eastside and therefore encourage the participation of artists who identify as first nations, women members of a visible minority and people with physical or mental health concerns.
